The voluntary repatriation of about 1600 Mozambican families, victims of Tropical Depression Ana, who were welcomed in Nsanje, Malawi, in January this year, will begin on the 22nd of this month. These families had to leave their land due to the floods caused by the tropical depression Ana, which also caused the overflow of the Chire river..
To this end, the district government of Nsanje is committed to finalize the list of all displaced persons who are in eight accommodation centers and send it to Mozambique by this Friday. The national director for Prevention and Motivation at the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management (INGD), César Tembe, assured AIM that several actors will be involved in this process of return of Mozambicans to Morrumbala.
"Repatriation seems urgent. On the Malawian side, it was agreed that by July 8 they should finalize the lists of all displaced persons who are in eight accommodation centers," clarified César Tembe.
In a recent meeting between the parties it was defined that the lists should contain all the information about the heads of the households, their dependents, place of provenance, among other data deemed important.
"This data will facilitate the organization of all the necessary logistics so that people can be repatriated," he stressed.
On the same occasion, the Malawians questioned the Mozambican delegation about the withdrawal of displaced people, instead of providing, at this stage, food and utensils for the benefit of all. On the subject, César Tembe made it known that during cyclonic events, the provision of supplies, among various support to families, is done through many organizations.
"Therefore, it is good that our compatriots return so that together we can start the reconstruction process", he said. At the time, the administrator of Morrumbala, João Nhambessa, assured the existence, in the country, of 2300 plots for allocation to families. It should be noted that since the tropical depression, the Government of Mozambique, through the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management, has provided food assistance to those families.
Recently, the institution channeled about forty tons of various goods, including food, hygiene, and health products, which were delivered by President Luisa Meque.
