In Mozambique, the number of cases of rape and abuse of children and women by workers in small and large companies continues to grow.

Last year alone, about 100 children became pregnant and were abandoned by workers in Manica, Nampula, and Cabo Delgado provinces.

To prevent these numbers from increasing and the impacts from multiplying over the years, civil society organizations want child protection policies and a code of conduct from companies.

Amélia Fernando, from Rede Criança, notes that in places where large road or bridge construction projects and buildings are implemented by small and large companies, there are reports of child labor, sexual abuse, and rape of women and children.

To reverse this scenario, the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs and civil society organizations, quoted by VOA, defend a code of conduct under discussion will further enrich the laws that protect minors and vulnerable people, from pregnant women and the elderly.

The Assembly of the Republic promises to legislate on this matter, with António Boene, president of the First Parliamentary Commission, considering that defending children's rights is a noble act.
