The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, appointed today, through a Presidential Order, Mateus Magala to the position of Minister of Transport and Communications.

Magala's appointment comes hours after the Head of State removed Janfar Abdulai and Manuela Joaquim Ribeiro from their positions as Minister and Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications, respectively.

Until the appointment Magala was Vice President of Human Resources at the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Magala will find a Ministry bogged down with unresolved debt issues, starting with Tmcel, which has about one billion meticals in outstanding payments from State institutions, including universities.
