The Government, through the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) has granted scholarships to 40 Mozambican students to attend degree courses in the areas of gas, oil and mining.
Of this group of beneficiaries, 30 have already left and will study at the University of Petronas in Malaysia for the next five years, and over the course of their training the state will disburse more than $1740,000, hoping that they will then come to meet the needs of the country.
Specific areas of study include mining geology, petroleum engineering, chemistry, and electronics.
The other group of ten grantees will leave for Germany only in September, to study at the Technical University of Freiberg
Speaking at the farewell ceremony for the first group, the head of MIREME's Human Resources Department, Marta Pecado, explained that the thirty students were chosen from a total of 1235 candidates throughout the country and represent the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete, Niassa, Zambézia, Manica, Inhambane, Gaza and Maputo.
Marta Pecado also said that in this process a quota of 20 places was allocated for students coming from the implementation areas of major projects such as the districts of Palma, Larde, Moma, Macomia, Mueda, Moatize and Govuro, and the remaining 20 places are reserved for other parts of the country.
The displacement of the scholarship holders is part of the strategy to train national executives for the sector of mineral resources and energy approved in 2010 and which foresees the annual sending of students to universities recognized worldwide.
