The structured development of the agriculture sector in Mozambique can only be successful if, in addition to the large private producers, there is an integration of small family farmers, especially in the access to markets.

This is one of the main messages left this Monday by the president of the National Federation of Agricultural Associations of Mozambique (FENAGRI), Hernani Mussanhane, after the signing of three partnership agreements with Winresources; Market Acess and the Association of University Finalist Students of Mozambique (AEFUM). Mussanhane argues that in Mozambique only two percent of all credit that is granted to the economy goes to the agriculture sector.

"This level of funding is very little for the potential that exists in the agricultural sector in Mozambique. We must reverse this situation so that this area is, in fact, a priority in this country," he observed.

Referring to the agreements signed yesterday, the president of FENAGRI specified that with Winresources it is expected that the memorandum will create the basis for support to its members, in the development of the strategic plan and access to financing.

With Market Access, FENAGRI hopes that at the end of the implementation of the protocol signed yesterday, it can be endowed with an exhibition department to create a new concept of Agricultural Fairs.

"Already with AEFUM we will have the reinforcement of the capacity of the technical department and the Finalist University Students will benefit from internships and access to the job market. In our strategic and sustainability vision, we also decided to create the economic and financial arm, an agricultural portal, and the introduction of electronic management of members and registration," emphasized Mussanhani.

Quoted by the Notícias newspaper, the source also announced that the official establishment of an entity called FENAGRI Investments, whose objectives will be announced in due course.

Also speaking at the event, David Freitas, president of Winresources, made it clear that the signing of the memorandum is a clear sign that the organization believes in FENAGRI's strategic vision to boost the agricultural sector.

He defended that Mozambique has a vast potential in the agriculture sector, alerting, therefore, the need to take advantage of all the opportunities that are opening up in face of the changes that are being verified in the world markets of agricultural products.

The director general of Market Acess, Jahamo Calima, expressed the availability of his organization to support FENAGRI in boosting the value chains by lending their experience in conducting agricultural fairs in some districts and provinces, especially in the center and north of the country. The students, through the president of AEFUM, Nélio Zunguze thanked the partnership established ensuring that the association is ready to lend its knowledge and at the same time acquire new experiences.
