Especialista recomenda medidas para garantir qualidade do ensino superior

Jeffy Mukora, an expert in the area of external quality assessment at the National Council for Quality Assessment of Higher Education (CNAQ), argues that to achieve excellence, higher education institutions have to invest in equipment, strengthen the capacity of using information and communication technologies for information management and assessment and accreditation processes.

The pronouncement was made, last Thursday, in Maputo, during the inaugural class of the Higher Institute of Management, Sciences and Technology (ISGCT), under the theme: "Promotion of the culture of quality in higher education".

In the scope of the reflection, Jeffy Mukora referred that the quality of education provides each citizen, who accesses higher education, with the capabilities he or she needs for self-realization and active participation in promoting the sustainable development of the country, as a competent citizen and professional, prepared to live with dignity, in a democratic, just, and peaceful society.

According to the specialist, a basic requirement for the development of a quality culture is the existence, in higher education institutions, of a permanent evaluation system that provides information about student demands and identifies opportunities for improvement.

"A proper communication strategy is considered a prerequisite for disseminating quality strategies and policies, evaluating results, and identifying values, staff beliefs, as well as the involvement of the entire academic community in the institution's decision making," he stressed.

For his part, the rector of the Polytechnic University, Narciso Matos, indicated that for about ten years the issue of teaching quality has been worrying the institution he directs.

"Most of the courses in our training offering have gone through an evaluation system, and all have been approved. We voluntarily submit the courses to evaluation," he said.

This year, according to Narciso Matos, the university concluded the curricular review process of all courses, which will allow the gradual correction of anomalies that had been identified by the professors and students themselves.

Matos also emphasized the periodic training courses for professors at the University, in which subjects such as Oral and Written Communication, Information and Communication Technology, and Scientific Research Methodology are taught, so that they can improve their skills.
