“No gume das palavras”: uma Conferência Internacional em homenagem a José Craveirinha

The Mozambican Writers Association (AEMO) is holding next week, in the city of Maputo, the first International Conference "On the Edge of Words", in honor of the Mozambican poet José Craveirinha (1922-2003).

The event, which will take place in the AEMO's noble hall, will take place between Tuesday and Wednesday, and will be the first allusive to Craveirinha's centennial.

According to the general secretary of the association, Carlos Paradona, the event will take place in both face-to-face and virtual formats, and will feature the participation of several national, Angolan, Portuguese, and Spanish authors, who will discuss the author's life and work.

"It arises to honor and salute the birth centenary of José Craveirinha and aims to internationalize Mozambican literature and culture," the writer explained.

Paradona provided this information following yesterday's visit to the José Craveirinha Foundation, in the house where the author of works such as "Maria" and "Xigubo" lived part of his life.

On the occasion, Zeca Craveirinha, the poet's son, was happy to see that his father was not forgotten.

"Celebrating is this, coming home and exalting José Craveirinha, not letting this memory die," he said.

The incursion is part of a range of initiatives linked to José Craveirinha's centennial, which began on Wednesday with an exhibition and book sale at the Natural History Museum, on the occasion of May 18th, World Museum Day.

Today, the writers held a cultural soiree at the Maputo International School, and on Monday, the winner of the José Craveirinha Literature Grand Prize, organized by AEMO and sponsored by the Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa company, worth 25 thousand dollars, will be known.

On the 25th, the book "Memories of the Indian Quarter", by Juvenal Bucuane, will be re-launched at the Atelier Noel Langa.

At 8.30 am on the last day of the centennial, May 28, there will be the laying of flores in the Mozambican Heroes' Square.

The party will continue later at the Maputo Municipal Council and at the Guilhermina space.
