The Government, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, cancelled a tender for the award of rehabilitation works of a protocol residence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Veronica Macamo.
According to Lusa (via noticiasaominuto) the Minister of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, invalidated the contest, in an order issued last Thursday (06), due to the fact that the process contains illegalities.
The source says that these violations have to do with "norms of the Regulation of Contracting Public Works, Supply of Goods and Services to the State and the Law of Public Probity.
The protocol residence is intended for the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, but in the capacity of former president of the Assembly of the Republic, a position she held for ten years.
Thus, the process of awarding the works on the house in allusion seriously violates rules of public probity, since the rehabilitation of the house had been given to a construction company owned by a senior deputy of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo).
The illegalities were detected after an audit conducted by the Inspectorate General of Finance.
The awarding process for the works, which has since been cancelled, was promoted by the Office of Assistance to Former Presidents of the Republic and Attendance to Senior State Officers.
The government recently shared with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) its intention to submit to parliament a proposal to revise the Public Probity Law because it believes that the norm is permissive to unethical acts by public servants.
