Maputo hosts launch of Mozambique Week in the UK today

Maputo city hosts, today, Tuesday, the official launch of the "Mozambique Week in the UK". The ceremony will be addressed by Silvino Augusto José Moreno, Minister of Industry and Trade and NneNne Iwuji, British High Commissioner to Mozambique.

Mozambique Week in the UK will be a 3-day event, with each day focusing on a different theme, being Agriculture, Climate and Tourism and Energy.

According to Radio Mozambique, the event aims to highlight the opportunities in these sectors in Mozambique and promote the UK as a partner of choice for long-lasting partnerships with British investors and companies.

In his 2020 speech the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, declared that Africa is the future and set the ambition for the UK to become one of the largest G7 investors with an impact on Africa.

This announcement translated into a change and a modern UK - Africa partnership that goes "beyond aid", and provides a compelling narrative behind which presents Her Majesty's Government's strategy of increasing private investment in Africa to stimulate mutually beneficial economic growth and create jobs, particularly for young people and women.

The Mozambican side event held on the sidelines of the UK-Africa Investment Summit, focused on investment opportunities in agriculture and agribusiness and was attended by the then Minister for Africa and President Nyusi.

The two countries agreed to then organize a "Mozambique Week in the UK" in late spring, to check the progress of the agreed actions, and to extend the discussions to other sectors of interest for mutual prosperity.
