The Ministry of Land and Environment developed in partnership with a private company will implement a system to track timber from the point of felling to the destination.
In a first phase, the initiative was implemented in Zambezia province, and next year it is expected to expand to other regions where wood is exploited.
According to Carmem Baptista, head of the Forest Management Department, this action will allow the illegal logging to be relieved at the country level.
For Carmem Baptista, with the system now launched, it will be possible to control at a central level (Maputo) the logging licenses issued by the provincial directorates.
"We will have access to information about the licenses issued each year. We will also be able to control the fines passed and paid. This exercise will eliminate the old analog process where we were dependent on reports," she said.
