INAE suspends 48 economic units with expired products

The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) detected 48 economic units (10 industries and 38 grocery stores), in the city of Maputo, with expired products and raw materials, in poor conservation conditions and with falsified labeling, resulting from inspections conducted from January 10 to 28 of this year.

The spokesman for the National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE), Tomás Timba, said that of the 48 units, the highlight goes to the seizure and destruction of 2800 boxes of cakes and cookies that were in a state of deterioration in one of the confection and sale industries in Maputo city, which constitutes a health risk for consumers.

INAE also suspended the activities of an establishment dedicated to the sale of cake-making products that was altering expiration dates, displaying and selling out-of-date products, and illegally processing and packaging food.

"Some vitiated products were found, we are talking about milk and food with expired expiration date and exposed to the public. This establishment had full knowledge that the products sold did not meet acceptable conditions," he explained. Timba also said that INAE suspended the activities of a butcher shop that was selling deteriorated meat and fish, aggravated by the application of the respective fine for the attack to public health.

"The smell of nauseating meat could be felt from outside the establishment. We gave an injunction as an opportunity for this plant to improve the conditions of cleanliness, entrance of the meat, its conservation and even its processing, because the cutting and packaging was illegal," Timba added.

INAE has also suspended activities for the correction of anomalies related to hygiene and ventilation to six industries and 30 grocery stores.
