President of the Republic announces takeover of terrorist bases in Cabo Delgado

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi announced today, the seizure by the joint force of Mozambique, SADC, and Rwanda of all the bases that had been created by terrorists in the province of Cabo Delgado.

Filipe Nyusi, who was speaking on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference in Lilongwe city, Malawi, after the closing of the extraordinary SADC summit, made it known that the province of Cabo Delgado is fully controlled by the joint government force.

Nevertheless, the Head of State gave warning to sail when he stated that terrorists and protagonists of violent extremism, will have the response they deserve as this year is decisive.

And because the combative action of the joint force operating in Cabo Delgado is not giving a truce to the rebels, still according to President Nyusi, these have sought refuge in other parts of the country, so he reassures the population.

According to Radio Mozambique, the president's statements came after the extraordinary SADC summit extended the SAMIM force's stay for another three months, to fight terrorism and extremism in Cabo Delgado.

The maintenance of SAMIM's mission, will have a budget of 29.5 million dollars, which the extraordinary summit approved this Wednesday in the city of Lilongwe.

In his closing speech, Malawi's President and SADC Acting President Lazarus Chakwera, assured that the Southern African regional bloc, will not waver until peace and security are restored in Mozambique.

Chakwera said that Mozambique should feel solidarity and support from the other member countries, as the Southern African regional political bloc is engaged to stop the scourge of terrorism for Mozambique to achieve its development purposes.
