Aquaculture contributes with two million tons of the national fishing production

Small-scale aquaculture contributes, annually, with half of the national fishing production, that is, two million tons of fish, from a total of four million that are caught during the year in several fishing modalities in the country.

The fact was announced by the Minister of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Augusta Maita, during the recent three-day working visit to the province of Manica, at the closing of the training course for 55 extensionists in Aquaculture Value Chain, which took place in the district of Sussundenga.

This training is part of the implementation of the Small-Scale Aquaculture Development Project (PRODAPE), launched in May of this year by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, in Chitima, Tete province.

According to the Minister of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, identical trainings may take place next year in other districts and have as focus the increase of the fishing production, aiming to reach the objectives of the sector in the context of the "Zero Hunger" goal in the country.
