Zero Hunger Plan costs the government 400 billion meticais

About 400 billion meticais is the amount that the government promises to invest in the agricultural sector in the next eight years in order to "eliminate" hunger, thus fulfilling the United Nations goal in this regard.

For this, in the short and medium term, the government intends to reinforce investment in the agrarian sector an additional effort to what already occurs on the ground, as is the case of the SUSTENTA program.

Yolanda Gonçalves, spokesperson for the second Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER), confirmed that the sector has an agrarian investment plan for the elimination of hunger by the period in allusion and funds are needed for its implementation.

Gonçalves, who was speaking last Friday, during the MADER Coordinating Council, in Maputo, said that the funds now advanced, will be applied in several projects of the agricultural sector value chain.

The spokeswoman also says that the investment plan for the agrarian sector to eliminate hunger by 2030 will be submitted to the competent bodies for their approval, but she says that various opinions from society will be heard first.

"Starting in the first quarter of 2022, the stakeholders of the agricultural sector's value chain will be consulted, in order to assess suitable proposals for the plan," he stressed.

It should be noted that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), outlined by the United Nations, foresee the elimination of hunger in the world by 2030, a goal that is also part of the Mozambican government's program.
