Government guarantees to extend water supply network to more than 5.3 million people

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, promised this Wednesday that a total of 5.3 million people will be covered by drinking water supply services in rural areas by the end of this five-year period.

"Reaching this number will mean an increment in 16% of coverage of this service," said Filipe Nyusi.

The governor, who was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the water supply system in the administrative post of Zambuè, in the district of Zumbo, in Tete, recalled that the coverage index rose from 30%, in 2015, to 67% in 2020, benefiting more than four million people in rural areas.

However, in relation to the inaugurated infrastructure, Nyusi said that those who don't live in Zambuè or Zumbo may consider it a small system, but it is a service that will contribute to improve local sanitation.

"People were suffering from diarrhea, they were not protecting themselves effectively against cholera and other water-borne diseases, they couldn't do the same at this delicate time in Covid-19," Nyusi annointed.
