Zambézia achieves self-sufficiency in corn, soybean and tuber crops

The Government of Zambezia revealed this week that the province has already achieved self-sufficiency in maize, soybean and tuber crops. Still, challenges remain regarding agricultural mechanization to make it more profitable.

According to the governor of Zambezia province, Pio Matos, he said that there is a need to invest more in technologies in order to create conditions to industrialize the production with a view to adding value in the market.

To this end, the governor says, "the Government, through the Program for Integrated Management of Agriculture and Natural Resources - Sustenta, is working on agricultural mechanization and hiring extension workers.

"The allocation of 75 new tractors and respective implements and the hiring of 315 new extension workers from the public network, which will boost the transfer of technologies, through agrarian mechanization and true schools in the field," considers the governor of Zambezia province.

However, to meet this challenge, Pio Matos urged the province's 840,000 producers, managers of agricultural supply centers, and other stakeholders in the production chain, greater involvement, commitment, and the use of sustainable agricultural practices that preserve natural resources.
