The sale and consumption of Ceres 200-milliliter apple juices in the country is prohibited. The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) considers them unfit for health, because a mycotoxin called Patulin in the 200-milliliter apple juices, a substance capable of causing vomiting, nausea, gastrointestinal problems and, in a more serious case, death.
According to INAE spokesman Tomás Timba, the anomaly was identified by the National Economic Inspection and Food Safety Authority of Angola, a country that, like Mozambique, also imports Ceres juices from neighboring South Africa.
In Mozambique, it is estimated that at least two thousand boxes of this juice have entered from the importer and distributor of the brand in Maputo, and followed to destinations such as Nampula, Sofala and Inhambane.
"We were able to get at least 622 boxes off the market, but the work continues," said the INAE spokesman.
