PR appoints new ministers of Defense, Interior and Civil House

The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, today appointed three new ministers. These are Cristóvão Artur Chume as Minister of National Defense, Arsénia Felicidade Félix Massingue as Minister of the Interior, and Constantino Alberto Bacela as Minister in the Presidency for Civil House Affairs, according to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, to which MZNews had access.

Cristóvão Artur Chume will replace Jaime Neto, who was relieved of his duties as defense minister on Wednesday, while Arsénia Felicidade Félix Massingue will take over as interior minister to replace Amade Miquidade, who was removed on Monday in a presidential order.

Until now, Cristóvão Artur Chume was commander of the army branch, a post he assumed in March of this year, after changes in the structure of the Armed Defense Forces promoted by the Mozambican head of state.

In addition to commanding the Military Academy from 2019 to 2020, the new defense minister was also Director-National Defense Policy, a position he held from 2011 to 2019.

For her part, the new minister of the interior, Arsénia Felicidade Félix Massingue, was chief commissioner of migration, having been on the list of officers of the National Migration Service who benefited from a career progression in November 2020

Filipe Nyusi also appointed Constantino Alberto Bacela as minister in the Presidency for Civil House Affairs, replacing Adelaide Anchia Amurane, who resigned on Monday.

During the closing of the training courses for sergeants of the Armed Defense Forces, on Wednesday in Maputo province, Filipe Nyusi said that a process of restructuring the Defense and Security Forces is underway, aimed at strengthening the "core" that will ensure the "maintenance of the victories" that Mozambique, with the support of the forces of Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has achieved in the fight against armed groups in Cabo Delgado.
