Countries and manufacturers unite to end fuel-powered cars

Thirty countries and six automakers have signed an "alliance" to end sales of fuel-powered cars as of 2035 in the world's most important markets.

The agreement comes on the sidelines of the UN climate summit being held in Glasgow and includes six major manufacturers, namely Ford, General Motors, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, and BYD.

According to sources citing El País, about thirty countries have made this commitment, including the United Kingdom, Canada, India, the Netherlands, Austria, Norway, Chile, and Denmark.

However, the US, China, Germany and France did not go along with the agreement. Data indicate that the transportation sector is responsible for about 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, 90% of which is practically road traffic.

This is yet another action taken in order to reduce the impacts of climate change that plague the world.
