"Accelerating vaccination is the best way to stop the pandemic," says WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) consider that the greatest weapon against the Covid-19 pandemic is to accelerate vaccination, since most hospitalizations and deaths occur in people who are not immunized.

The immediate priority of the two organizations, according to the Spanish newspaper "Publico", is to immunize the entire population under the community motto of "no one is safe until everyone is safe".

The two organizations also agree not to abandon preventive measures such as hand hygiene, social distance, or wearing masks, which can save up to 188,000 lives.

WHO warns of new wave in Europe and Central Asia. "We could have a new wave of 500,000 deaths in Europe and Central Asia as early as January and February," said the body's director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressing that "43 countries will be subject to a high or extreme level of hospital stress already starting in those months."

Meanwhile, at the global level, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also warns that there are 56 countries, which have seen increases of more than 10% in Covid-19 deaths.
