The government announced this Wednesday the closure of some beaches in the country, due to the "levels of disobedience" of users to the measures to contain covid-19.
A decree approved by the Council of Ministers closes a total of 18 beaches for 15 days, "taking into account the levels of disobedience," said Filimão Suazi, a government spokesman, moments after a meeting of the body in Maputo.
These are the beaches of Costa do Sol and Catembe, in Maputo city, Ponta do Ouro and Macaneta, in Maputo province, Bilene and Xai-Xai, in Gaza, Barra, Tofo and Guinjata, in Inhambane province, all in the south of the country.
In the central zone, the beaches of Ponta Gêa, Estoril and Macuti, in the city of Beira, Zalala, in the city of Quelimane and, in the north, the beaches of Fernão Veloso, in the city of Nacala, and Wimbe, Marrenganhe, Sagal and Inos, in the province of Cabo Delgado, will be closed.
The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, announced in September an easing of the restrictions to prevent covid-19, among them the reopening of beaches until 5:00 PM, with a ban on crowds, gambling, and the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Last week, the government warned about the possible closure of the beaches, due to the "bad behavior" of the users.
